We Will Replace Outrage with Self-Confidence.
The Supreme Court, soon expected to overturn Roe v. Wade,* is definitely not living up to its name. The word supreme means “greatest,” “superlative,” and “matchless” — yet such a decision, which would clearly disregard the will of an overwhelming majority of Americans, is rather the worst.
Despite this setback, we cannot give in to fear — that is, Future Events Assumed Real. We cannot allow ourselves to view the arrival of the dystopian world of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale as inevitable. Let us stop wasting time being afraid or outraged — and instead take our righteous indignation to the ballot box. Vote in every election. Persuade at least five other people to vote. Volunteer to help register others to vote. Tell everyone you meet: You will change the world with your vote.
Let us live our lives holding steadfastly to the vision of what is possible. We don’t have to be impressed by circumstances, no matter how dire things may appear. When we know what is spiritually true, we know that anything is possible (Matthew 19:26).
