What Are We Voting For?

“Everything will not be okay.”

That’s actually what the sign says — plastered prominently in the window of the downtown Republican Party Headquarters in the city I live in.

I don’t know if this contemptuous slogan is being spread just in my location, or across the country — but it certainly does reveal the disturbing mindset of the Trump-defending, 2020 election results–denying, insurrection-supporting Republicans. And it shows us the very dark direction they want to take our country.

These MAGA folks appear to be overtaken by a sense of crushing fear and distrust. But their torment and ignorance will not stand.

The good Republicans, Democrats and Independents of this country greatly outnumber those who seek to destroy the promises of democracy. Still, we must act.

So, how do we respond?

We vote.

And wherever we go, whatever we do, let us choose to respond to the MAGA Republicans’ despairing outlook with undying optimism. When we maintain our belief in the ideals of democracy — in the rule of law, in free and fair elections, in equality for all —…
